In the forum: Locked topics in our Messagecenter

I got the idea for this suggestion in the morning when I was in my messagecenter and want answer to a reply of a topic. And there is no icon or something that shows us that this topic is locked.

I have the idea to show us locked topics with a little icon change in our messagecenter, should be easy to implement because it's only a little change.

In the first "reply" you see in the headline the normal view of a reply to one of your comments/topics. There is a little speech bubble icon before the topic title. And I think the best and easiest way to show us that you can't reply to this comment is a little change of the icon to the locked icon (you know this from the forum).

Update:
Thanks for the idea with the button `thespook i've change your idea a little bit. Now the button "reply" is not displayed if the topic is locked because you can't use it. Another idea could be change the opacity of the button to 50% but I think this confusing more as a not displayed button.

Doesn't it throw an error when you try reply to a locked thread?

Maybe they should also change the reply button to 'locked' or something similar...

Would be a great idea :D

When you click reply you can write your comment but when you will send the comment you get an error. And I think a earlier notification is better.

indeed

this has been requested before, and it sounds quite logical, not sure why they haven't done something about it yet. note $zilla774 with this

That'd definitely be a great idea. When viewing the Message Center JS (outta boredom, really), I found that all messages currently in memory (on the page) have an associated "icon" property, though the property seems to only have a value for Notes.

In other words, all they'd have to do to implement it is modify a script or two on their server -- the functionality to display the icon already exists. Then, a script on the page could check for the icon and block the Reply button accordingly.

I've changed the deviation a little bit and bring in a little bit of your idea ;) Note to $zilla774 will come later ;)

Yes, I think this is a little modification of the script. Only a little loop "if topic is closed then display locked, else display normal".

This would be great. I've been so frustrated before after typing out a nice long reply only to have it come back with an error. Another problem is when you get a reply from something that's been deleted, like a journal entry, which results in the same error.
